Sew Unsure

So much for lazy Sewing Saturdays…how I miss those weekends where I can get lost in my sewing room playing with my new fabric and trim purchases.

On Friday, my Sunshine Girl (Marielle) was transported to Philadelphia due to uncontrolled high blood pressure.  Since then the docs haven’t been able to figure out what is going on.  Yes, we know she is in need of a kidney transplant, however, something else is happening.

Tonight they’ll be moving her to the ICU so they can give her around the clock IV blood pressure medications.

We got the results for my brother yesterday.  No, he is also not a match for a kidney donor for Marielle.  Next we are testing my youngest sister and then two friends and perhaps a nephew.  We’ve also received several offers for cadaver kidneys, but none have matched.

Because my daughter received a liver transplant as an infant, she carries not only her own antibodies, but that of her liver donor.  Therefore, she is a harder match than most.  If you would like to find out more about being a kidney donor to my 15-year-old daughter, Marielle, please contact Joann Palmer of Children’s Hospital of Philadephia at (215) 590-2449.

Please help me spread the word.  Feel free to post this to your blogs and web sites.  I would be forever grateful.

With friendship,

Lisa Carroccio

  1. I got so emotional reading this, that I forgot my english… Wish you and especially Marielle all the best. I keep praying for her.

I love your clothing line and what you had done for the trade show booth. You had it all thought through, so many details etc. Maybe it´s common there, here in Finland booths are sooo boring and only very few companies try to look good in every way. Strange. And I simply cannot understand how you manage everything, since so much is going on in your life. Respect!

  2. praying for M! hoping for a miracle soon!

  3. Lisa – I posted a link on my blog to here. Good luck to you and Marielle. We are thinking of you. Laura

  4. how does one go about finding out if they are a match? are there certain criteria’s (like body type, size, etc) or is it a blood test? i’ll be keeping you in our prayers ((hugs)) to your family.

  5. thanks everyone!

In order to be a donor, one must be in good health. And to be a donor to Marielle who is A positive, the donor must be either an A or O blood type (postive or negative).

    With friendship,
    Lisa

  6. Hi Lisa
Prayers for your sunshine girl and extra prayers for strength for you, Mr. Diva and your son.

  10. Lisa my sweet friend. I’m so sad to hear this, I had been praying so hard that your brother would be the perfect match. How many more volunteer donors do you have at this point?

I don’t even know my blood type, but I’m going to find out. Love you sweetie! Miss you too, I’ve been so busy this week and I’m aching to chat with you soon.

  11. Hi Lisa, I found your blog while searching for something else, I pray for you and your family, and hope you find a match soon.I would myself offer but am so far away in Australia. Your clothing line is awsome, you are a very talented lady well done, you are certainly doing so much in a trying time of life. You will find that it will all work out in the long run, and life will become so much better. Pop on over and say hi if you have the time. And I would love to advertise and do a write up on my blog, if that is ok with you. Cheers Debra.

  12. Lisa, you know that I think of you and Marielle every day. Bless your heart, you have so much going on in your life, and yet you seem to manage to just keep going and going had have a wonderful positive attitude. You are truly an inspiration.

    I have already mentioned this need on my blog, but I will mention it again as well. {{{Lisa and Marielle}}}

  15. Brenda Erickson says:

OH Lisa I hope a donor is found soon. What blood type is she? I will continue to pray.

  16. I’m sorry to read about what your family is going through. I have a close relative that’s in renal failure right now. She just started her dialysis treatment a week and a half ago. She had to have one kidney removed a few years back and the one she has left is at less than 12% right now. We’re all going to be tested though, so it’s a matter of finding which of us will be the one to help her. But from what I understand, many people live for many years in dialysis. And so for now, she’s doing that.

And so with that I hope you know that I understand, and wish you and your child my best and warmest wishes. If there’s anything that either my family or myself can do to help you, please let me know.

    Hugs,
    Lory

  17. Sending good thoughts to you and yours. I posted on my blog for you!

  18. Oh Lisa 😦

My heart just breaks for you guys. We will continue to keep Marielle in our prayers…

    Renee

  19. My prayers are with your family, especially your daughter.

  20. Lisa, I hope a donor is found soon! Please let us know how it is progressing and what the doctors think is wrong with her blood pressure. That also is a big concern!

  21. Lisa, is she in dialysis yet? I know this has to be excruciating. I’ve been praying hard for you guys, and hearing word on Marielle is about the only reason I check my blogroll right now.
    Mary

  22. Oh Lisa..I’m so sorry. Hang in there. I know this is awful. I’ll say a little prayer for you guys.

  23. thanks everyone.

Marielle is still in ICU. The docs have stabilized her blood pressure so we are hoping to get her in a regular room within the next 48 hours. Tomorrow she is undergoing a nuclear scan to try to help figure out the pain in her abdomen (other than her kidney disease).

We have put off dialysis due to the increased risk of infection, but within the next week or two, it looks like we will have no other choice.

Don’t know if I mentioned, but we found out that my brother is not a match and are now testing my youngest sister. Thanks for everyone’s continued prayers and support.

Hopefully we will find a kidney soon and get back to our life.

    With friendship,
    Lisa

P.S. – I have NO EMAIL access at the hospital…something is wrong with my system…ugh!

  24. Hello, Lisa. I learned about your daughter via Mrs. B., from the Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom blog. I’m so sorry, and hope from my heart that you get a donor asap. I posted about it atmy page. Blog by blog, you can spread the word and soon find someone who is compatible with your girl.

    Keep us posted, please.

    Kisses from a Brazilian blogger.

  25. I have problems with my own liver, so I could never be a donor. BUT I added the info to my blog. Hopefully someone will see it and be able to help your baby girl out.

  26. I wish you both the best! I have no clue what my blood type is… I will post this on my blog. Hopefully someone will be a match for your daughter.

    Jamie 🙂

  43. Lisa, I am so sorry for your daughters pain and fear. I have three teens of my own and can only imagine what you are going through.

I am signed up through the donor registry program and have an A positive blood type. I am healthy and have already called the hospital and hope they can call me back tomorrow.

I do live in Colorado, however I am sure if it worked out… we could find a way.

My heart goes out to you, and I am blogging about this as well.
I heard about your through Nydia of Bringing up Salamanders.

  44. Lisa, I got a call this morning about the donor information. They are sending me a packet out on what is expected on the “testing” process.

I will keep you informed on the steps. Joann Palmer seemed a little hesitant and unsure what was going on.

Good luck and keep us posted on your daughter.

  45. Can you let us know what blood type we would need to be to be a match?

My thoughts and prayers are with your daughter and family!

  46. Lisa, my sister found your blog through twitter and suggested I contact you. I work for a non-profit organization called the Alliance for Paired Donation. We help people who need a kidney and have a willing but incompatible donor get matched with others in the same predicament. For instance, we help find simple swaps where your brother, let’s say, would give to me if I needed a kidney, and my sister would give to your daughter.

If you would like more info, please visit our Web site at http://www.paireddonation.org. Or, if you would like to contact me offline, please email admin@paireddonation.org.

We also use altruistic donors (Good Samaritan donors) to start a chsin of transplants. I am adding a link to a news clip that explains how it works. Since this spot aired, we have had more than 100 people come forward to say they want to donate a kidney.

I hope your dsughter improves soon.
    best regards,
    Laurie
