Expand Your Sewing Abilities

For today’s post of Heather Bailey’s March of the Tools, I present to you:

The SimFlex Expanding Sewing Gauge

Recommended by my dear friend, Carol of Just Kidd’n, this neat expanding tool accurately measures spacing for snaps on my little boys’ shirts.  Not only does it measure the distance between the snaps, but it also helps me keep the distance from the edge of each snap.

Just lay it over your garment and expand it to the desired length for equal spacing from 3/8 inch to 3 3/8 inch. simflex2

Use it to measure:

  • Bias Strips
  • Straight Strips
  • Knitting Gauge
  • Smocking
  • Shirring
  • Pleats
  • Tucks
  • Gathers
  • Patternmaking
  • Calligraphy
  • Scrapbooking
  • Cake Decorating

Happy Sewing!

  1. agree its the best for spacing buttons at the largest part of the bust line so we dont have gap-osis. I learned to use this from Clotilde (goggle her if you don’t know about her) when she used to come to my state and taught seminars years ago. Great tip.
