My daughter and friends made a face when I showed them the fabric (Jane Sussman) I was using for a little skirt set…so in the Applique scrap bin it went.
I had already made a hot pink ruffle to match the ugly fabric, so I did a little fabric shopping in my stash and came up with this:
Am I the only one who is guilty of never sewing for those we love most? It occurred to me I hadn’t sewn anything for my sweet niece, Josie, in quite some time. So I wiped up a quick skirt.
But one cannot just make a skirt–it needs a matching top. So then I make a quick peasant top.

Just need to decide whether I want to encase elastic in the neckline and sleeves or add some yummy hot pink elastic trim instead. Decision, decisions.

Meanwhile, my little guy decided he’d design a set for my Downtown Joey boys’ clothing line. What talent. LOL. It certainly was smarter to let him draw on my sketch pad than to have him spinning around on my new sewing chair and knocking over one of my sewing machines…KWIM?
He’s been home sick since the week before last…he’ll be the first one at school tomorrow, I promise.

P.S. - for some reason, my email is not coming through all day…go figure. Hopefully, it will resolve itself as I’m not computer guru!

We sewists and crafters have that FAVORITE THING we’ve made. You know what I’m talking about…the one that brings you great joy. The one creation that challenged you. The one with the fabric that spoke to you. The one that makes you smile every time you think about it. THE ONE.
Whether it be a dress, pincushion, quilt, handbag or anything else you’ve made with fabric, I’d love to hear about it.
I’d like to include YOUR FAVORITE THING in an upcoming post, so email me at domesticdiva@si.rr.com. Include your name, email address, eBay or Etsy ID, link to your blog, and a link to your selling venue (web site, eBay or Etsy). Most importantly, be sure in send me a photo of your FAVORITE THING!
Please be sure to email me by March 1st to be included in the post. Don’t be shy–I love making new friends! I look forward to seeing all the beautiful creations!

Lisa

So Ingrid of Cherry Tree Graphics and I are working on the Downtown Joey web site for my new boys’ clothing line. And I need a TERRIFIC TAG LINE…so help me out!
FIVE YARDS OF FABRIC TO WHOEVER COMES UP WITH THE BEST TAG LINE!!!
First let me tell you a little about who Downtown Joey is:
- He fights with his sister, but worships his mother
- He always stick ups for the smaller kid
- He is a pro video gamer
- He doesn’t go after the girl his buddy has already claimed
- He sweet talks the babysitter
- He loves Super Heroes and secretly aspires to be one
- He blushes when kissed in public
- He wishes his mother would let him dress in Star Wars’ t-shirts, but settles for pajamas instead.
- He doesn’t like to be wrong
- He goes up the playground slide backward
- He refuses to eat anything green
- He can wield a sword, light saber or nunchuk better than a Ninja
If I remember correctly, my old tag line was something like, “Uptown style for your Downtown Boy.” Not sure. But I’d really like to play up the Uptown/Downtown thing as we are based here in NYC…so we are naturally COOL…LOL! However, it can be anything that fits!
So let’s hear your ideas. You may submit as many tag lines as you’d like! Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Lisa

TWEET TWEET
Especially when it’s some yummy Joel Dewberry Sparrows fabric! Just received this coordinating fabric for my Garden Room cushions from J. Caroline Creative.
Speaking of J. Caroline Creative..have you seen the latest fabric she and Jessica Jones of How About Orange introduced?
Modern Flora
While you’re at it, check out Caroline’s tutorials for the storage baskets, child’s chair, and upholstered chair she made with the new fabric line!
THE DIVA DRINK
Another package contained these hand-painted drink coasters I won from Jamie of Jamie’s Painting & Design!
I must say, these are some of the nicest glazed pieces I’ve seen…and I’ve done ceramics for years.

Jamie also has a great blog where she shares great small business advice! Thanks Jamie!
WHAT A CRAFTY APPLE
And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, much to my surprise, was another package. Linda aka Craft Apple is a smart cookie. When I noticed her name of the return address, I thought for a second she sent me one of her awesome quilted patchfolio PATTERNS.
But no..EVEN BETTER! She made me one herself!!! Check out Linda’s handmade goodies on Etsy! Thanks Linda! I love it!
REAL SEWING ROOMS WEB SITE
Just got my sewing room and blog listed on the Real Sewing Rooms web site! Thanks Carol! I’ve been stalking your site for years…LOL! Everyone, go check out the photos of all the neat sewing rooms!
LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED
The kids have been playing hookie home sick from school with sore throats and coughs all week…but not to worry, it’s LADIES NIGHT tonight! Yippee!
We’ll be fine dining at one of my very favorite restaurants! It will be so nice to have some adult conversation without the kids nagging me every two minutes…KWIM?
Hope you get some ME time, too!

Oh and something else…I just got tickets for Martha Stewart Live in NYC on Tuesday, March 11th…who’s coming with me? Anyone? Let me know!
Now back to the sewing room…

TACKLE IT TUESDAY
Seems I haven’t done a Tackle It Tuesday since December 19th!
My mission today is to finally assemble another new chair for my sewing room. After Mr. Diva’s empty promises to do it for the last two weeks, I had better just do it myself if I ever want to get it done.
oh crap! Wish I would have seen the “In-Store Chair Assembly - $5″ notice INSIDE the darn box! Ugh, ugh! That would have been money well spent…KWIM?

Valentine’s Day is over…so time to take down those decorate and store them back in the attic. No big deal. But while I’m up there in the attic, I’ll need to take down the ridiculous amount of St. Patrick’s Day decorations I’ve acquired and decorate for the upcoming Green Day!
Head on over to Tackle it Tuesday to see everyone’s tackles!

SEW SIMPLE
A while back I bought this vibrant Jane Sussman print not knowing what I wanted to do with it. A print like this is not what I usually go for, but I bought it because I have a serious fabric addiction anyway. It’s only been in my fabric stash for about 2 years now…LOL!
Today I’m going to whip up a simple twirl skirt with a hot pink ruffle just for fun.
QUICK BAKING
Although the Dough Boy promised it would only take 11 to 15 minutes, he lied…it was more like 25 minutes! Liar, liar–pants on fire.
They were ok, but I think I prefer their regular Cinnamon Rolls. These Cinnamon Twists were a little too flaky for my taste.
Hope your day is off to a great start!
With friendship,
Lisa

Sometimes the simplest things are the most clever…
For instance, my water source is not in the same room as my iron. That would mean a trip to the sink each and every time I needed to refill my iron. And if you are a steam whore like me, pressing each and every seam as you sew, that’s a lot of water…KWIM?
One day while buying yet another drink dispenser at KMart (to be used in my laundry room for liquid detergent and fabric softener), it occurred to me I could use one in my sewing room.
I filled it with a gallon of water and placed it on a low shelf right above my ironing board. Now I dispense the water I need right into my iron…genius, I tell you! Sometimes I even amaze myself.
Get your own at Organize.com for only $5.99 or a Rubbermaid 2 Gallon Dispenser for $11.99:
However, if you are the fancy type, you could get one of these:

Happy Sewing!
