Want to see what everyone else did for Handmade Holidays?

Yes, this crazy hoot was in the car at 5:15am this morning. First stop, Kohl’s Department Store. I wanted to pick up two Roomba’s (only $99 each from 4am to 11am today only) for my Mother and Mother-in-Law. The cashier lines literally wrapped around the ENTIRE store–more than 300 people on line…ugh. Sorry ladies, you won’t be getting Roombas for Christmas.
Next stop, Joann’s Fabrics. For some reason, I’m always the SECOND person to arrive no matter how early I leave my house. The Weird nice Pet Bed Lady always beats me! Now it’s really important to be one of the first 3 people there as our local Joann’s Fabrics only has 3 shopping carts. And there is no way you can carry your flannel bolts to the counter without a cart.
Now The Pet Bed Lady and I have an understanding…she gets all the fugly cat and dog flannel prints while all the boy and girl flannels are MINE. I’m so nice, I even let her look at my sales flyer as she is a moron and I’m hoping I can divert her to the sales on the Notions Wall left her flyer at home.
The Pet Bed Lady and I both race to the back of the store where the flannel fabrics are kept. Now, she “thinks” because she sells her crappy pet beds and donates the money to our local animal shelter that she is going to block me out of the thin isle with her shopping cart…think again.
I manage to wiggle my body in between her shopping cart and the flannel, scooping several bolts of fabric at a time (yes, working out at the gym with my personal trainer is finally paying off!). But then I notice Pet Bed Lady is breaking the flannel rule and is going for MY BOY PRINTS! That’s it…it’s FABRIC WAR!
I must do something as I see my 99 cents a yard fabric “score” going down the drain. “Ugh…that’s ugly…no one is going to buy that fabric for their pet,” I blurt out. She looks up at me and says, “Do you think?” I make an ugly face and then she promptly puts the flannel back on the shelf. I then distract her with a hideous cat print and lie like a car salesman tell her it will be her biggest seller this year. While she’s cooing over the cat print, I quickly grab the boy print fabric bolt and run for the cutting counter before she realizes how I’ve tricked her.
I make it out of the store for under $100 (retail value $400) with a full loot of stabilizers, flannels and plastic thread storage cases. Yippee!!!
Next Stop…Staples. Easy? Not really. Staples was a bit of a disappointment this year. I went to pick up one of these Samsung Color Laser printers for only $99:
Of course the jerk guy who I held open the door for got the last laser printer. It probably would have been a foolish purchase for me as I have two professional Hewlett Packard commercial laser jet printers in my home…I just wanted something more compact.
But I did get a few flash drives for $9.99 each (originally $39.99)…score!
Unfortunately, Staples would only sell me ONE of the $9.99 (regularly $39.99) P-Touch Label Makers…I needed 21 of them for teacher gifts! They were such a hit last year when I gave them out. Everyone thought it was such a clever and useful gift.
Needless to say I was bummed…but not for long!
Over to K Mart I went to load up on Star Wars toys for my favorite little Jedis! I overdid it a bit…over $400 worth. All Star Wars toys were Buy One, Get One 50 percent off. I also purchased a nice 20 inch flat panel LCD television for my daughter…only $199 (I saved over $100) and a $9.99 DVD player (originally $30).
All that shopping and I was back home by 8:30 am! Whew! I was thinking about venturing out to Target, but I am both physically and mentally exhausted!
Hope your Black Friday shopping was a success!

SEW Typical Thanksgiving in NYC
Now you’d think the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade here in NYC would be the highlight of my day. But no…instead we entertained 17 of New York’s Hottest Finest…
The NYC Fire Department were not on the original Diva Thanksgiving Day Invite List, but stopped in for a visit…
because dumb arse Mr. Diva™ was heating up a fully-cooked and carved turkey from our fabulous caterer cooking. How hard is it to put the turkey in the oven and baste the darn thing for 45 minutes? And where the heck is the aluminum foil I told him to use to cover the turkey? He’s always making jokes about my cooking disabilities. But like he always tell me, “Don’t spit up in the sky!”
Upon noticing our “spread” (food), NYC’s Finest said they’d be back for dessert…LOL. Never a typical holiday at the Diva’s.
Hope your turkey was better than mine!

Happy Turkey Day!
Well, I must admit…I am NOT cooking (unless you could making candied sweet potatoes gourmet dining…KWIM?)…we are having our “catered” 21 pound turkey complete with trimmings. All I have to do is pop it in the oven for an hour at 350 degrees…presto:
Instant Thanksgiving!!! Woo Hoo!
Hoping everyone has a glorious day!

Sew Thankful
So, who has inspired your love of sewing?
Although my Mother only sat me down a few times to teach me how to sew, I watched her all my life as she did her “creative thing”…whether it was making me a little dress, custom bedding for friends, home decorating or creating my daughter’s layette…my Mom is a true Domestic Diva!
Everything made by my Mom (except the baby…well actually, she did play a part in that…as she created ME and I created the baby…LOL).
My Mom - Sweet Sixteen (yes, she made her own dress).
Mom (love the beehive hairdo…LOL), my younger sister, Laurie, ME and my beloved brother, Joe.
My late Aunt Rosemary and my Mom.
I just HOPE I age as gracefully as she does!
Thanks Mom for inspiring my creativity and always encouraging me to be my best! Love you lots!
With LOVE and friendship,
Lisa

Yep, that’s right…this bad Mother is letting her kids play hookie from school today so we can go take our Christmas portraits at Carrie’s. I don’t get to see her and her sweet girls often enough…so I’m really looking forward to it! Let’s hope the school principal doesn’t read my blog…haha!

Tackle It Tuesday – Week 3
Whew! I finished last week’s Tackle-it-Tuesday projects:
The Dining Room Buffet:
Inside Left Side of Buffet:
Inside Right Side of Buffet:
Side of Buffet:
The Dining Room Floor:
I ended up storing about 20 bottles of liquor in the dining room buffet, gave away a case of liquor to my beloved brother and ended up stacking the remaining bottles neatly in my garage.
BONUS: So that my Thanksgiving’s Day guests would have a place to hang their coats, I completely reorganized the Front Hall Closet:
There’s now room on the hanging rod for at least 8 more coats. All the hats, gloves and scarves are now organized in a drawer for each member of the family. Just need to find my darn labelmaker so I can label the drawers:
Next up:
The Garden Room:
The Garden Room always becomes a dumping ground as soon as it starts to get cold. I love to sit in my favorite chair and peruse my sewing magazines and books. But I’ve got to have it straightened up by Wednesday night as Thanksgiving company usually sits out there between dinner courses.
Garden Room Desk:
Garden Room Desk Drawer:
This may explain why there’s so much stuff on the desk…LOL! Several of the desk drawers are EMPTY!
Also this week:
Holiday Decorations – On Sunday, my cleaning girl is coming over to earn an extra $100 help me get the boxes of Christmas decorations out of the attic. Now you might not think this is a big deal…but I guess you haven’t seen my “collection”…LOL…it’s MASSIVE. Wish me luck…lots of luck!
Head on over to 5 Minutes for Mom’s Tackle It Tuesday! You’ll be glad you did!
With friendship,
Lisa

I FINALLY got to run out to Joann’s last night and use my $15 off coupon…woo hoo! I picked up some funky zebra velboa to recover my daughter’s window seat cushions along with some hot pink woven fabric for the piping…
Also found some soft embossed minkee-type fabric which I’ll use to for her throw pillows:
Speaking of fabric…yesterday I got some good mail! Amy aka Mrs. Schmenkman Quilts sent me the yummiest Shine fabric and some Gutermann thread! Thanks Amy…you made my day!
The Cleaning Girl is here today…so guess what I’m doing? Attempting to clear away the clutter so she CAN clean…LOL!
Hope everyone’s day is off to a great start!

Speaking of sewing for babies, today I MUST get those baby gifts done once and for all as I have several other sewing projects I need to get started. Ironically after I made all the custom embroidery designs, I can’t transfer them to my embroidery card because I fried my computer (a new computer should be here in less than 10 days…woo hoo!)…therefore, I’ll have to get creative with fabric and embellishments. But once Mr. Diva™ returns from Sunday Bowling, I’m on a mission:
I need to find either PINK or Zebra home dec fabric (I think it’s 40% off today plus a bonus coupon) to recover my daughter’s window seat cushion and some nice fabric to recover all the cushions in my Garden Room…wish me luck!
