Tackle It Tuesday – Week 4
Yippee! I finished last week’s Tackle It Tuesday – Week 3 just in time for Thanksgiving Dinner!
The Clean Garden Room:
Now, I bet you’re wondering why it’s filled with boxes. Well, that’s just the Christmas lights! On Sunday, my cleaning lady and her strong 14-year-old son helped me take all the lights and other Christmas decorations out of the 2nd floor attic.
Unfortunately, there are Christmas boxes EVERYWHERE! I haven’t even shown you the half of them! But not to worry…this week’s project will be to put up all the Christmas decorations…well, except for the Christmas lights…I’ll be needing my contractor to do that unless I want to break my neck on the ladder…KWIM?
I did manage to “fluff” all the bows for the tree and actually get the tree assembled (ummm, it is one of those good ones…comes in 3 pieces and is fully lit with fiberoptic lights…haha). I’d better cross my fingers and hope the lights work this year…
So far, I’ve emptied 5 Rubbermaids and 2 huge cardboard boxes of decorations. Ohhhh, look what I found just in time for holiday inspiration:
I’ve been saving all my holiday sewing and craft magazines for the last few years…think I’ll go grab a cup of coffee and peruse them…LOL!
Head on over to 5 Minutes for Mom’s Tackle It Tuesday! You’ll be glad you did! It’s certainly made a difference around here!
Happy Organizing!

Today I MUST get together a new baby gift once again…only problem is I haven’t even started it…ugh! It needs to be shipped TODAY! Nothing like procrastinating a little bit…LOL!
I’m bummed as my new computer has yet to arrive…and I have no access to my embroidery software. So no personalized baby gifts…double ugh!
Now this wouldn’t be so bad if this was all that had to be done today. I need to figure out some type of party favor for Mr. Diva’s 50th Birthday party this Saturday. Think the guests would like pincushions? Guess not. Any ideas?
And then there the massive amounts of Christmas decorations to be unpacked and displayed…every year, it gets harder and harder to get this done in a timely fashion. I almost hate my neighbors who have their holiday lights all strung. But then again, they only have a few stands of lights and those stupid obnoxious blow up snowmen. Just knowing I need to replace the old lights this year on my 15 life-size wicker reindeers makes me cringe (1,000 lights per reindeer equals 15,000 lights). Pray for me.

Embellishing is SEW Creative
Sew Mama Sew moves on to Day 26 – Embellishments!
I created these crocheted flowers with rhinestone button centers and simple freestanding appliqued leaves.
Here I embellished an appliqued flower with hand beading using clear monofilament thread.
For this hat, I made three fabric rolled roses and some leaves.
I’ve made so many embellished baby gifts using Alencon Lace. First I sew down the lace and then secure each and every bead and sequin by hand…it’s labor intensive, but it looks stunning once finished.
Simple crocheted flowers spice up a fabric headband.
For these flowers, I ironed on fusible stabilizer to the back of the flower. I then cut them out and alternated tulle between the layers. I finished off the flower with dozens of black seed beads in the center.
On this dress, I finished the overskirt using a Madeira applique technique called Madeira Magic.
I just love to monogram! Everything from wedding items to baby items gets a personalized monogram in my house…LOL!

Sachets Smell SEW Sweet
Sew Mama Sew is sewing up some sweet Rice Heat Therapy Bags along with other Sachets on Day 24 of their Homemade Holidays!
Big Silk Potpourri Sachet
I just stitched up a big silk potpourri sachet and thought I’d write a quick tutorial. This big sachet was something my Mother taught me when I first learned how to sew. These sachets make great holiday gifts for teachers, secretaries and even moms!
Cut out a 16 inch circle. Use an aluminum party platter or tray as a template.
Choose lace or other trim from your stash. I selected a vintage needle run lace. You can also use a fabric ruffle trim.
With Right Sides together, fold over beginning of lace and pin to fabric.
Continue pinning until you reach the end, fold over lace and place your last pin.
Once pinned, thread your needle and bobbin with thread the same color as the fabric.
Stitch down the edge of the lace using your presser foot as a guide.
Once stitched, it should look like this.
Be sure to press so the lace lays nicely.
Using your edge joining foot and moving your needle to the left, topstitch fabric from the right side.
Turn fabric over to the wrong side, add cotton batting and your favorite potpourri.
Gather the edges of the fabric. This takes some practice…it’s not as easy as it looks.
Cut a long piece of floral wire using your craft scissors (don’t you dare use your fabric scissors until you want to ruin them).
Secure fabric with floral wire. Add rattail cord or ribbon.
Glue crocheted or silk flowers on the sachet to embellish it.
Add a vintage rhinestone button or other embellishment. Done!
The possibilities are endless. You can use ANY fabric, ANY trim and ANY embellishments to suit your taste. Get creative!
